Nail art workshop at Mood Indigo

People always ask me, whether I hold any classes or sessions for nail art. I am often reminded that in practice, some of the more intricate nail art are harder to accomplish, and often times it takes more than one or two tries to get it right. With that being said, I was thrilled at the opportunity of hosting a workshop organized by Mohawk. I didn’t know what to expect from this workshop at all; I had no clue about how many people would turn up, what they were expecting from me, or how it was going to turn out. But all I can say is that it was one of the best days of my life and I am truly grateful of getting the opportunity to teach the young and old alike. 1 The workshop began at 1:30 where I demonstrated a step-by-step process of making pretty nail art using several different materials. The Mohawk team had provided all the materials to the people who wanted to participate in the workshop and they had also arranged a camera with a live screening on the laptop for the people who were not able to see the nail art from different angles. 2 In the first session I taught a simple nail art using scotch tape and toothpicks, just like the Pineapple Express.  I must say, I simply loved the creativity and exuberance of my audience. This was due-to-the-fact that the audience could freely use the toothpicks and tape any way they wanted. The different colour combinations and linearity of the designs really brought out the fun and enjoyment of nail art! 4756 A lot of people started gathering and after the first round was done a few of them were eager to learn more nail art and wanted to sit for the second round as well. It was a heartwarming experience for me to paint nails for little kids, as their smiles glazed over their faces. Painting smiley faces and stars was fun for both parties involved and it simply brought out the little girl in me. 8910 For the second round of nail art posts we concentrated on an old favourite of mine. For the avid viewer, they will remember my News Print on Nails. This one was a crowd puller as the nail art looks intricate and fascinating, but is also super easy to accomplish. 12 I ended the workshop with the final session of a gradient nail art where we used a sponge to create a shaded texture on the tip of the nails. 11 After every session I got to take a look at all the creative nail art designs and pick a winner. We gave the winners a box of fun nail art related items in order to further master their talent. 13 The highlight of my day was the fact that children as young at 5 years and ladies as old as 40 years were interested in nail art. I have never been in such an environment where I have taught nail art tutorials for such a large demographic. Working from this side of the screen, I don’t know who my audience is, or what kind of people watch or read the content I provide, and rarely (except for a handful of avid fans) do I get to see their reactions or get their feedback while they are reading the blog or watching the videos. But, for the first time I saw the excitement and exhuberance on the faces of young girls and the happiness of attempting nail art. I even saw some of the frustrations of some of the young girls who had a hard time not smudging the paint on their nails. But the most important thing I got from this experience was the 1 on 1 interaction with each member of the audience. 1415 The smiles and laughter on the faces of women young and old gave me great pleasure, and words cant explain the joy I felt (truly empowering). 2015 has started of great! and all the positive energy around me has truly motivated and invigurated me to push much harder than ever before. Understanding more than ever how blessed my situation is, and to not take anything for granted is definitely something I will continue to do in this coming year and hopefully for the rest of my life.

Feel free to check out my nail art tutorials here.
Thank you for watching
Love you all!

Pineapple Express

???????????????????????????????

As avid followers of my blog posts, you will have realized how crazy I am about my nail art. In fact the majority of my DIY posts are primarily nail art posts. Now in creating those perfect lines, the use of sellotape is a must! You can get crisp clean lines by using sellotapes and it is super easy to try them yourself. To create this manicure follow these few easy steps, and get ready to flaunt your nails where ever you go.

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • Green nail paint
  • Yellow nail paint
  • White nail paint
  • Sellotape

???????????????????????????????

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Apply a coat of yellow nail paint, and let them dry completely before you move onto the next step (maybe a few hours or more). I left it like that for a day.

???????????????????????????????

Step 2: Cut 10 square pieces of tape and stick them diagonally as show bellow where the corners of the tape meet at the center of the nail.???????????????????????????????

Step 3: Apply white nail paint on the bottom half of the nail. You can make horizontal strokes so that it does not go over to the top half of the nail.???????????????????????????????

Step 4: Apply green nail paint to the top half of the nail.???????????????????????????????

Step 5: Now this is the tricky part since you have to be very careful. When you remove the sellotape in order to get smudge-free straight lines, peel of the sellotape one line at a time. What I mean by that is that you will have to peel each  piece of tape in two halves, the edge touching the green paint and then  the edge touching the white paint.???????????????????????????????

Step 6: You can dip a size zero paint brush in the nail paint bottle and correct the edges. Top it off with a clear coat of nail paint and  you are ready to go!

Color Me Rainbow

My latest post on nail art will have all your friends and family wondering what salon you go to. You can surprise them and take all the credit 😀 and maybe give some to Livemodish. Now although this mani may look very complicated due to its’ intricate design, I assure you its very easy to accomplish.

1

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • White nail paint
  • 5 bright colored nail paints
  • A paint brush and tooth pick with black and white nail paint or acrylic paint

OR

  • You can even purchase nail paints with a thin metal point used for nail art.

These nail paints are worth purchasing, especially in black and white color, as it works with any nail art.

IMG_3049_zpsa171a5e7

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Apply a white coat of nail paint onto your nails, and after it dries apply 2 coats of the colored nail paint. The white nail paint will ensure that the color looks bright and stands out.

2

Step 2: Make alternate black and white vertical brushstrokes on all your fingers. I continued the alternate color sequence on all the nails. For example, the last line on my index finger is white and I continued it with the first line on my middle finger with black nail paint.

3

Step 3: Make alternate 2 and 3 big dots on the vertical lines with the same color. If you make 3 dots on the first line, make 2 dots on the second one and keep alternating.

4

Step 4: Now make tiny dots within the big dots with the opposite color, as seen below.

5

Step 5: Finish this manicure off with clear glossy top coat and flaunt it.

6

You can definitely play around with colors in this manicure. Please send me pictures of your manicure after you try it.

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • White, black, red, and clear nail paint
  • A toothpick
  • Strips of tape (preferably paper tape). This is because in my own personal experience I’ve observed that paper tape doesn’t have such a strong adhesive, so it doesn’t doesn’t remove the nail paint when I peal it off.

1

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Apply a coat of white nail paint. Ensure it is opaque and not translucent, as a lot of the white nail paints are translucent.

2

Step 2: After the white nail paint dries, stick strips of tape horizontally with the desired amount of space between them. The amount of space I leave is the same as the thickness of the tape strips to get uniformity in the black and white lines. Make sure that there are no openings or gaps along the side of your nails.

3

Step 3: Apply a coat of black nail pain all over your nail. Dont be afraid to paint over the tape, since it will be coming off very soon.

4

Step 4: Let the black nail paint dry completely. After it’s dried, gently remove the strips of tape horizontally. Remember to be careful here! If the nail paint is still wet, or if you remove the strips in any other direction you risk the lines from getting smudged.
5

Step 5: Dip your toothpick in the red nail paint jar and make a heart on the bottom corner of your ring finger. After its dry, top it off with a clear top coat for that shiny glossy look :D.
6

This nautical themed manicure is cute, fun, and very easy! It just needs a lot of precision and patience, but once you get it right, be ready to flaunt it everywhere and get noticed.

Black Thorn

1

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • White, Red, Gold, & Black nail paint
  • Thin paint brush
  • Gel pen
  • Cello-tape

2

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Apply two coats of white nail paint on fingers and make sure the color is opaque and not transparent.
3 Step 2: Take a gel pen and mark a point at the centre of your nail.4Step 3: Cut the cello-tape into 1 inch pieces and apply it from the centre of the nail to the corner of the tip of your nail. Use the pen mark as a reference and make sure the pen mark is still exposed as it will get covered up in the next step.
5 Step 4: Apply the red nail paint on the exposed part of your finger nail. I repainted my ring finger with gold nail paint to add a little edge to the manicure (as seen in the next step).6 Step 5 : Let the nail paint dry for 10 mins and gently remove the cello-tape in the same direction as it was applied.7 Step 6: Take a thin paint brush, dip it in black nail paint, make a V shape at the tip of the nail and fill it in  (as seen below).8 Step 7: After the black nail paint has dried apply a coat of clear nail paint to secure any bumps or uneven surface and also to add extra shine to the manicure.

Suit And Tie

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • Grey, Silver, Black Nail Paint
  • Clear Polish
  • Toothpick ( you can even use a thin paint brush)

1

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1 – Apply two coats of grey nail paint on your fingers.2Step 2 – Paint the tip of your nails with the silver nail paint. This line does not have to be completely perfect because the black line on top of it will make it even. But, don’t completely depend on it and try to paint it properly (you can even use the cello tape method for this step). 3Step 3 – Dip your toothpick in black nail paint and draw a triangle. Draw it like an arrow facing the center of your nail. I used the stippling method (using tiny dots to make a shape) instead of just dragging the toothpick across the nail. Make sure this triangle is more towards the side of the nail.4Step 4 – Draw another triangle like arrow facing the previous one. Make sure this one starts at the center of your nail and connects to the tip of the first one. 5Step 5 – Once both the triangles are done it will look like a bow. Now use stippling method, make a straight line with black paint across the nail. Don’t drag the tooth pick across you nail; just make tiny dots close to each other which will form a line. If you are using a paint brush then you can go head the glide the paint on your nail.6Step 6 – Apply a clear top coat to give a glossy finish to you manicure.7P.S. you can use bright or pastel colors for this manicure for a summer-y effect. (a bright neon pink base with white tips and black bow just came to my head ^_^)

The Butterfly Effect

1

THINGS YOU NEED:

  • A bright orange, black, and white nail paint
  • A clear top coat
  • A permanent marker
  • A toothpick

2

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Paint your nails bright orange and let them dry for a few hours. Don’t apply a really thick coat because there are many more layers to come on top on it.

3

Step 2: Take a permanent marker and sketch the pattern, shown below, on all your finger tips.

4

The marker line is just a base that you will need for the next step, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.

5

The pattern should look something like this, representing the butterfly wings.

6

Step 3: Take a toothpick and dip it in the black nail paint jar and carefully go over the marker line. This step is important to prevent the marker line to smudge away in a few days and to prevent the line to smear while applying the top coat. The marker line will be secured by black nail paint as it used as a guide for perfection.

7

Step 4: Take the brush from the nail paint jar and paint the bottom half of the nails avoiding the gaps formed between the pattern.

9It’s okay if the side of your fingers get a little messy, the nail paint will come off your skin once it is dry.

8

Step 5: Let your nails dry for some time. Now dip the other end of the toothpick in your white nail paint jar and create medium sized polka dots on the bottom half of the nails.

10

Step 6: Complete this nail art with a glossy top coat of nail polish and you are ready to flaunt stylish nails.

11

I hope you guys liked this do-it-yourself nail art which is absolutely cost effective. Please so send me pictures of stylish nail art on liv3modish@gmail.com and I will try to break it down for you step-by-step on this blog.
